What are Tantau roses

!On September 0, 1882, in the German town of Ytersen, a boy was born into the family of the farmer Tantau. The baby was named Matthias. When the young man grew up, he got a job at the largest German rose nursery in Trier, where the owner was Peter Lambert. Later Matthias improved his skills in growing roses in nurseries in France and Switzerland.

When young Tantau was 23 years old, he created his own rose nursery. This happened on January 6, 1906. Every year, the nursery not only grew several hundred thousand roses, but also rootstocks for them.

Breeding work was carried out so intensively that new varieties appeared almost every year. A century later, Rosen Tantau is the world's largest producer of industrial rose seedlings. Today the company’s assortment includes a variety of types and varieties of roses, primarily:

  • hybrid tea roses
  • spray roses
  • climbing roses
  • miniature roses for patio

50 hectares of land are allocated for growing roses, where in greenhouses and open ground millions of beautiful plants grow. The production is equipped with the latest agricultural technology.Tantau rose seedlings are scattered all over the world and their popularity is enormous.

How to plant Tantau rose seedlings

Tantau rose seedlings

All seedlings from the Tantau company are of high quality. All plants are grafted onto modern varieties of rose hips, which do not produce additional root growth. Most often they are sold in technical container pots. All seedlings have well-developed roots.

Ground shoots are strong, covered with a special waxy coating. Almost all varieties are tolerant to precipitation, wind, and diseases. To preserve everything in roses that was put in the nursery, you must first of all properly plant.

Selecting a location

Most roses prefer good sunlight. Although some of the varieties of climbing and park roses bred by Tantau can grow in partial shade. Therefore, we choose a place for Tantau roses taking into account the variety. Regardless of the variety and type, dark, low places with close groundwater should be avoided.

Although roses do not really like drafts, stagnant air is contraindicated for them. It is advisable that there is moderate air movement in the area with roses. The soil on which roses will be planted should be loose, water- and breathable. The reaction is preferably neutral or slightly acidic. The best solution is light, fertile, loamy soil.

Soil preparation and planting hole

Roses Tantau grow in one place sometimes all their lives. Therefore, the soil needs to be properly filled with nutrient mixtures. To do this, first dig a landing hole. It is important to know that it is preferable to prepare a place for planting roses in the fall, although it is quite possible to do this in the spring, 2-3 weeks before planting.

The pit size is 60 cm in diameter and 80 cm in depth. When digging a hole, fold the top layer separately.Mix half of the excavated soil with rotted manure. It is very good to use old horse manure. You need 6 - 10 kg of manure. Add about 300 g of wood ash. Ash is suitable not only from the stove, but also from the grill or fire.

If the soil is heavier than needed for roses, you can add sand. Pour half the mixture into the bottom of the planting hole. The distance between pits for large species must be at least 1 m. Important! If you plan to decorate park paths with roses, then instead of a hole you can dig a trench.

Planting a rose seedling

Before planting, it is advisable to free the shoots of Tantau seedlings from the wax layer. This can be done using a toothpick. Carefully run the tip along the shoot. Pick up the edge of the film and remove it from the shoot as carefully as possible. Another way is to dip shoots into cold water, after which the wax film should peel off easily.

If possible, a day before planting, the seedling should be removed from the container and soaked in a solution of epin or another stimulant. Important! The Tantau company supplies seedlings whose roots are surrounded by a nutrient mixture. This mixture is secured with a special mesh. Simply remove the rose from the container and dip it into the solution.

After this, install the seedling in the hole along with the mesh. Carefully cover the roots with the remaining fertile soil. Then add the rest of the soil to the hole. It is necessary to ensure that the grafting site is covered with earth and is 6 - 7 cm below its level. Shorten the shoots by about 1/3. Water well and hill up high seedling.

Caring for Tantau roses after planting

Since the rose was hilled up quite high when planting, after 2 - 3 weeks the soil needs to be raked away from the shoots and made into a low roller around the bush. After this, the young seedling needs to be watered well. In the future, the young rose should be watered frequently, but without over-watering.

An adult bush is watered at least twice a month with plenty of water. Since the Tantau company sells a variety of rose seedlings, pruning is carried out depending on the variety. Many Tantau roses need winter shelter, especially carefully covering the roots and lower parts of the shoots.
