Why is it important to care for your vineyard in spring?
The most important time for gardeners and gardeners is spring. The development of the vineyard, fruiting and quality of the harvest depend on proper care at this time. If you do not provide favorable conditions for the plant after wintering, then some problems may arise when growing crops. The bush will develop poorly, the leaves will bloom slowly and fungal diseases may appear.
Even before the buds open, juice is released from the grapevine cuts - this is the period of sap flow. If the roots of the plant are damaged by frost, then the “crying” goes away slowly or may not occur at all. If excessive “crying” occurs, you should properly pruning plants. Otherwise, untimely pruning and excessive sap flow can negatively affect the development of the vine and even lead to drying out.
Activities to care for the vineyard begin at the end of February.Dates may vary for each region. With the onset of spring, the bushes are opened to awaken the roots.
When to open the vineyard
Covered varieties are recommended to be opened when the air temperature is above 10 degrees. Each vine bush should be opened gradually and preferably in the morning to avoid sunburn. In the southern regions, the best time for this is April, and for the northern regions - May.
If the probability of spring frosts is high, then it is not advisable to remove the covering material so as not to damage the root system. It is necessary to make small holes for air access. After opening, the bush should be treated with Bordeaux mixture (3%) or iron sulfate (5%). This way you can delay the swelling of the kidneys and get rid of fungal diseases, mold.
It should be remembered that keeping the vine under cover for a long time at positive temperatures has a negative effect on the plant. On such days, gardeners remove the cover, dry the vine, and then cover it again to a stable positive temperature.

The first step is to prune those varieties that are not under cover. This procedure should begin in March. It is necessary to remove all dried, broken shoots. Pruning should be done with a well-sharpened garden tool - pruning shears. The cut should be made 3-4 cm above the eye and along the internode.
Last year's vine is also pruned. On the replacement knot, only the inner one should be left the escape. The cut areas are treated with garden varnish. In the future, in order for the fruits to receive enough light, it is necessary to cut off the leaves that shade the brushes.
To protect the plants from possible diseases and pests, the grapes are sprayed after pruning. For this purpose, chemical or biological preparations are used. Many gardeners do not use chemical treatments because they believe that eating such berries will cause poisoning. However, such remedies will not cause any harm to the body.
The only thing is that if safety rules are not followed, you can get poisoned from inhaled chemical vapors.
Biological products used to protect plants from pests include Bordeaux mixture, nitrfen, oxychome, and karbofos. One of the solutions should be sprayed not only on the leaves, but also on the root zone. To obtain the best and most versatile vineyard varieties, grafting is performed on an old bush. The procedure is carried out after the kidneys have swollen. It can be done in several ways: in the split, in the butt, end-to-end, by the copulation method, on a separate root.
Cuttings for grafting are prepared in the fall. It should have 4 buds. A couple of days before the procedure you need to soak cuttings in water, adding a growth stimulant. The first time the grapes are fertilized with compost or manure. Fertilizer can be immediately placed under the bush or prepared as slurry. In order for the root system to better absorb fertilizers, it is necessary to make a small furrow about 40 cm deep around it.
Perform the first fertilizing after the snow has completely melted. The second feeding is carried out during the growing season, which occurs in mid-May. For this, superphosphate (20 g), ammonium nitrate (15 g), and potassium (5 g) are used.Mix all components and dilute in 10 liters of water. This amount of fertilizer will be needed for each bush.
Many gardeners actively use foliar feeding. They use a special mineral fertilizer, which is sprayed on the foliage of the vineyard. With proper care of the vine in the spring, you can grow a rich harvest and avoid possible problems when growing grapes.
