Prevention and control of strawberry weevil

The weevil causes the greatest damage to the strawberry crop during flowering. Since the female beetle, during the period of laying eggs, gnaws a hole and lays an egg there, seals the hole with her excrement, and then gnaws the peduncle, after which the bud dries and falls off, you need to make sure that the beetle leaves before the buds begin to form.
The fight against strawberry weevil should begin from the moment the snow melts. The ground on which the leaves left over from last year lie, under which the beetles are still sleeping, is thoroughly watered, at intervals of ten days, with an iodine solution (half a teaspoon) in a bucket of water.
During the period of bud formation, but no later than a week before flowering, treat strawberries with biological preparations, of which there are now a lot.
Since the weevil is afraid of the smell of onions, garlic and pine needles, many suggest planting onions (1 onion for 4 bushes) or garlic (4 cloves for 4 bushes) near the strawberries. Instead of treating strawberries with biological preparations, you can use this method: put 100 grams of garlic in a bucket of water, let it brew for a week, then add two tablespoons of boric acid and 400 milliliters of pine extract. Spray the beds with this killer drink.
We must not forget that all the beetles cannot be poisoned anyway, so you should not be lazy in shaking them off the bushes, having first laid oilcloth or paper under the strawberries. Bitten and wilted buds should be broken off and destroyed.
If you take good care of prevention, the fight against strawberry weevil will be much easier. Prevention methods include treating bushes after harvesting.
And also we should not forget that this weevil is called the raspberry-strawberry weevil, and accordingly, it eats beetles and raspberries. Therefore it is necessary to process it too.
Comments
the weevil is not afraid of onions. There is a bed with a trampoline next to it, so I didn’t notice that there was more of it further away from the onion. The same number of beetles is right with the onion. which is far from him. I just collect beetles - carefully, since they are dexterous, in the morning and in the evening. I destroy the mown buds. 5% of buds disappear.
