Arrowhead is perennial herbaceous plant, which, depending on the species, can either grow completely in water or be partially immersed in it (for example, growing on the shore of a pond). This plant has two types of leaves: underwater, similar to long thin ribbons, and above-water, shaped like arrows (in fact, this shape of the leaves gave the plant its name).

In natural conditions, arrowhead found on the banks of swamps and rivers. However, it can be easily grown in a pond located on a personal plot. This plant will be a great decoration for any artificial pond.

On the rhizomes of arrowhead small tubers similar to nuts are formedthat can be eaten. Tubers form on plants exclusively in late autumn and early spring and have a very interesting taste: when raw they resemble walnuts, when baked they taste like potatoes, and when boiled they taste like peas. In some countries, particularly China, North America and even France arrowhead is cultivated and grown as a common vegetable plant, using its tubers to prepare many dishes and desserts (for example, wonderful creams and jelly are made from flour obtained from tubers).
