Caring for currants in spring: fighting mites

Caring for currants in spring is very important. Because it is during this period after hibernation female mites begin to lay their eggs in the kidneys. And this has a very negative impact on the harvest.
A new generation develops from the eggs. The process takes a month. By the time of flowering, the buds are completely filled with mites and it seems as if they are about to burst.
Buds filled with mites lose their original shape, becoming similar in appearance to heads of cabbage. It is very important not to miss this moment and remove the buds with mites. Such buds must be quickly removed from the bush and burned to avoid the spread of ticks throughout the area. And they spread very quickly, in 2 - 3 weeks.
Ticks carry the viral disease "terry disease". Instead of the expected flowering and fruits, you may get thin purple needles.
Caring for currants in spring, directed against ticks, consists in treating the bushes with special preparations that destroy these creatures. For this it is necessary treat the bushes with 0.1 Decis solution. It is advisable not to take cuttings from infected bushes. If you still need to propagate the bush, then cut the cuttings before the snow begins to melt. In this case, get cuttings without mite eggs. Before planting, treat the cuttings, put them in 0.1 Decis solution for 15 minutes, then rinse well with running water.
The affected bush can be saved, provided that the flowering is good and there is no terry. And it’s easy to remove unexpected residents. The bush must be completely cut off and the affected branches must be burned. The lower branches must be bent and covered with 15 cm of soil on top. Then water generously. Ticks will die over time, as they will lose the ability to move. After some time, new shoots will grow from the buds located underground. In the fall you will have healthy planting material.
