Growing gladioli

Gladioli belong to the iris family. These flowers amaze with their variety of colors. Gardeners traditionally grow them by the first of September so that children can give them to their teachers. Plants have closed life cycle, which does not stop even in winter, when the bulbs of these flowers are stored on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, otherwise they will not sprout for a long time and will not have time to bloom. Growing gladioli We will look at it from the beginning of April, when the bulbs are pulled out, peeled and carefully examined. Diseased bulbs can be thrown away, and if they are only partially damaged, the sore spot is removed and the healthy tissue around it is smeared with brilliant green.
Place the treated bulbs in boxes and leave them in diffuse sunlight. Before planting, they will have small sprouts, about 5 cm long. Before planting, the bulbs are treated with some kind of disinfectant, for example, "Maxim". Gladioli can be planted as soon as the ground warms up in a sunny place protected from the winds. If you want to grow gladioli for Knowledge Day, then plant them at the end of June. These plants love fertile soil, but cannot tolerate excess mineral salts. When planting bulbs in the ground, the following rule is usually followed. The larger the bulb, the deeper it is buriedso that the plant does not break later.
Large bulbs are buried to a depth of about 20 cm, and medium ones - 10 cm. On heavy soils, the planting depth is slightly reduced. The soil needs to be cleared of weeds, loosened, mulched with humus, and watered abundantly. The plant is better after the arrows appear spudso that it doesn't break. After the plant has finished blooming, the cultivation of gladioli does not end. Babies are formed on the bulbs, i.e. small daughter bulbs. in autumn bulbs are dug up together with the children, cleaned of soil, dried at room temperature for about a month. Then the remaining roots are removed, the bulbs and children are separated and placed for winter storage.
