How to plant petunia seedlings at home

This bright and delicate flower is increasingly conquering modern city streets: colorful flower beds, rich flowerpots and chic compositions for containers. Today, petunia can be found in expensive cafes, in store windows, and on the balconies of ordinary citizens. That is why the question of how to plant petunia seedlings at home, is increasingly occurring among both experienced gardeners and beginners. Of course, in the spring, flower shops sell ready-made petunia seedlings, and professional garden centers provide an excellent assortment: colors, sizes, shapes to suit every taste. But the price for such plants usually bites. And if you only need two or three plants to decorate a balcony or window container, then you can afford such expenses, but if you need a lot of flowers, then you should familiarize yourself with the following tips.

  1. How to choose seeds. There is no need to skimp on planting material. Petunia seeds are very small; it is very difficult to notice a single seed on the ground. Therefore, it is more convenient to work with seeds that are in a colored shell.
  2. Where to grow petunia seedlings. It is best to use a special container for seedlings, but you can get by with a regular plastic cup with a lid (for example, from sour cream). The lid is necessary to provide the increased humidity necessary for comfortable germination of petunia. Planting depth is at least 5-6 cm.
  3. How to plant petunia seedlings. You need to fill the container completely with soil, leaving just one centimeter to the edge. Any mixture is suitable, light or universal, intended for growing seedlings or indoor flowers. Before planting the seeds, the soil should be well watered and the water should be allowed to absorb. If several plants are grown in one container, the seeds should be placed at a distance of 2-3 cm. It is advisable to place the container with the seeds in a bright place. It is advisable to maintain the temperature from 18 to 25 degrees. The seedlings should sprout in two to three weeks.
  4. How to care for petunia seedlings. As soon as the sprouts hatch, the cover must be removed to avoid fungal and viral diseases. Sprouts require a lower temperature of 10-15 degrees and as much light as possible. It is recommended to plant petunia when the diameter of young shoots is 2-3 cm.
