Palm trees
Does anyone grow palm trees at home or are they no longer in fashion? We used to have two large date palms, but we had to give them away when we moved. Now I’m thinking of planting a date seed, do you think something will grow from it?

I myself do not grow palm trees from seeds; I prefer to buy ready-made plants. We have Dracaena and Yucca growing at home. However, you need to take into account that in a panel house it is necessary to constantly humidify the air.
Yucca has been living in my house for 13 years and does not require any special care. You could say it grows on its own.
Palm trees take up too much space. My friend’s mother has Khoveya growing, it goes all the way up to the ceiling. But when you enter the room you feel like you are in the tropics. She still has many large plants living there. Of course, something will grow from a date seed, but I don’t think it will be edible. Still, the date palm needs a whole room in order for it to grow and bear fruit. If only for beauty.
I also agree with you that palm trees are not entirely suitable for our apartments; they are best planted somewhere in the office. These are the places where they belong, and palm trees look much more advantageous in spacious rooms than in a hall whose area does not exceed 18 square meters.
And I was always interested in the question, will a palm tree brought from somewhere in the tropics take root in an ordinary apartment? Or, as a last resort, for example, from Sochi?
Palm trees brought from Sochi grow beautifully at home. My mother brought a palm tree from there in September last year, and it is growing actively. And I have a Washingtonia fan palm growing, I sowed it with seeds. True, I can’t boast of its huge size, but on the package with the seeds it was written that it takes a long time to grow the root system.
I used to have a date palm. I think that if you love palm trees, then feel free to plant the seeds, just keep in mind that they take a very long time to germinate.
Please tell me, my date palm is not taking root at all. Maybe there is a special secret? Perhaps they need special soil or lighting, and how often should the plant be watered? Thank you in advance.
We have small Hamedorea and Howea palms growing at our house. I don’t like palm trees that are too big; they take up a lot of space and a lot of dust settles on them, even if you constantly wash the leaves you can’t get rid of this problem.
A date palm from a seed does not always grow beautiful. To really make it pleasing to the eye, you need to plant several seeds... In general, it is better to buy an adult plant.
I also had a dracaena growing, but the cat loved to play with it.. I had to give it to my mother. She spent a long time learning to “feel” the plant: what it needs in terms of watering... And yes, the air needs to be constantly moistened. Otherwise, the dracaena will dry out.
It will definitely grow! I planted such palm trees everywhere - at home, at work, at work, at a friend’s place at work, for my child’s music school, and I gave a small tree to the second one in the sports school - they grow and become beautiful everywhere. And caring for such palm trees is the most common.
Yes, sure.My mother planted palm trees like this many times. Almost all the seeds sprouted, but this will take a lot of time.
It happened to me once - I stuck date seeds in flower pots and completely forgot about it. Then, after about three months, they all began to sprout, but for a long time I could not understand what it was that was growing next to the flowers.
Palm is our everything! Plant it. The seed sprouts quickly. Beautiful, funny, clear! However, everything is then thrown away
An adult plant in a store is expensive and it is not known whether it will die? Therefore, it is better to choose larger seeds, several pieces, because not all of them take root, and plant them directly in the ground. The soil needs to be watered regularly and in about two months you will see sprouts. The first two years the palm tree grows very slowly, but by the third year it already looks like a palm tree. It’s very nice to grow such beauty yourself.
I have both palm trees and bamboo. I love them very much
The idea is that if you take proper care of it, it will grow.
