Soil for orchids

How to prepare your own substrate for orchids? What should be included in this mixture? I read somewhere that you don’t need to add soil there at all.. Is that true?

You can use the following composition:

  1. A little coal
  2. peat,
  3. pine bark (you can chop it if the pot is small)
  4. leaf soil.

Mix all these components in a ratio of 1:1:1:3.

If the orchid is very small, you can carefully tie it to pine bark. Cedar or larch bark is suitable.

And for the orchid we bought ready-made soil in a pot. All the necessary ingredients were there. This is very convenient when replanting an orchid. We also bought food for her there. Affordable price.

This, of course, is a personal matter for everyone, but I would also advise you to buy ready-made soil. Firstly, it is not that expensive, but it already contains everything necessary for the growth of orchids. In addition, there is enough in the bag to transplant several pieces.

I usually buy universal soil at a flower shop and don’t even bother, it fits perfectly with many types of plants, although then I still change it and replace it with a new one.

Good soil for indoor plants, in particular orchids, should contain humus, leafy and turf soil and a little sand. You can also add a little wood ash and pine bark.

Soil for orchids is, as it were, not soil at all, but crushed tree bark.In addition, in the walls of the plastic flower pot, you need to make several holes on all sides so that air can flow to the roots of the orchid.
