Hedge, which plant is better to plant?

I have always looked with envy at those dacha plots where shrubs are used as hedges. It looks so beautiful that I don’t even have enough words to describe its beauty. But I never knew which plants are best to use for planting, and how close to each other should the shrubs be planted?

Our neighbors have hawthorn growing as a hedge, but they practically don’t prune it, although it looks good anyway. I also know that you can use bladderwrack, shadberry and other shrubs; you need to plant them as often as possible so that there are no gaps between the bushes as they grow.

Still, I think that a hedge should be a hedge, not a thicket. Therefore, it is necessary to give shape to the “improvised fence” so that you won’t be ashamed in front of your neighbors, and a beautifully trimmed hedge looks much more beautiful than disheveled and unkempt bushes. IMHO.

If you do not trim the bushes, the hedge may soon become impenetrable thickets.I don’t like those people who don’t strive to take care of their garden plots. If you don’t want to do it yourself, then hire people or don’t make people laugh with your carelessness.

We planted small thujas on one side, half a meter apart each, and among the bushes there is also juniper. It looks good this way. You need to choose shrubs based on the purpose of planting a hedge. For example, cotoneaster makes a dense and beautiful “living” fence. It is most suitable for decorative purposes.

I like it best when I live. the hedge is made of barberry or hawthorn. Barberry has a very cool smell during flowering, and hawthorn can then be collected and used as a medicine during the winter cold to boost immunity.

I also like a hedge made of barberry bushes - it’s a little difficult to “get through”, but it looks beautiful. And barberry berries can also be collected, dried and used in various dishes, for example, to make gravy for meat!

I really like the look of a privet hedge, or this plant is also called ligustrum. It grows very quickly and you can only trim it twice over the summer.

I love it when the hedge is made from ornamental coniferous shrubs. It’s very beautiful when they are trimmed with balls, but, unfortunately, I already have a fence at my dacha.

In my opinion, the most beautiful hedge is made from juniper. The height and width of the hedge depends on the type of shrub, but I have never seen anything more beautiful.

Is it possible to plant chokeberry as a hedge? Still, a beautiful plant, and then you can also enjoy the berries in the fall.

Well, of course, first of all you need to look at the place where you want to plant the hedge. if it’s a gazebo, for example, it’s better to choose vines with flowers, and if it’s a street, then of course you need to plant something thicker and denser here so that the dust settles on the fence and not in your yard.

The hedge should be made of difficult-to-pass shrubs, for example, rose hips or sea buckthorn. In addition to its protective function, you can also collect the very useful fruits of these plants.

A hedge can also be made from bamboo; there are varieties that can withstand temperatures down to -30 degrees. S. True, to prevent it from growing on the sides, barriers for the roots need to be installed in the ground. This plant grows very quickly and the hedge can be built to the desired height.

My friend planted a thuja. Of course, the pleasure is not cheap, but the area is so beautiful.

For a hedge, in my opinion, prickly hawthorn is best suited, something like this:

I dream of such a fence made of intertwined shoots of thorny blackberries. I love this berry, and it’s extremely difficult to get through the thorny shoots. Here there is a double benefit from such a fence.

You can use useful and difficult-to-pass plants - rose hips, hawthorn, viburnum, blackthorn, which can also become useful in terms of obtaining and preparing medicinal berries.

I have seen beautiful examples of similar fences made of thuja, there are different types of these plants, so you need to take into account the fact that it is a dwarf thuja or a regular one, and calculate the distance from this.
