A house on a tree

Forum members, has anyone built a tree house on their summer cottage? Now there is a series of programs on the Discovery Channel - it turns out to be so cool! I would also like a house like this - beautiful!

My brother made it at the dacha for his son, only it was smaller than the one in the picture and the construction was carried out on a tree that had died due to decay. To build a good house of a decent size you need to find a strong tree. Among fruit trees, none of them are suitable, and it is advisable to take oak as the material - it is durable. Acacia is suitable for side walls and partitions; pine will be a bit expensive.

Thanks for such detailed recommendations! Perhaps someday we will decide to build a tree house in the country, but it will most likely be a playhouse for our grandchildren

I can recommend a construction company that makes similar houses. They did it for us last summer, wonderful layout and organization of construction. Everything was done quickly and efficiently, here is their website for those interested: https://wood-engineer.com. Previously, it was impossible to bring children to the dacha, but now they are just waiting for summer. Unfortunately, I cannot send a photo. I agree, it would be better to make such a structure on an old walnut.

The idea is, of course, interesting, but in terms of implementation it is quite difficult. We don’t have a uniquely suitable tree at our dacha, since all of them are fruit trees, except maybe nuts. It is strong and already of impressive size, but bears fruit poorly. You can try to build a house on it.

It looks beautiful, and not only in the pictures. I saw this with my own eyes and I think that with the proper skill, it’s not so difficult to do this. There would be material. But here's another problem. I don’t have any permanent trees on my property :)

I saw the technology of building a house not on a large tree, but on a growing one. Along the perimeter of the future house, willow is planted in several places and when the trunks get a little stronger, a platform frame is made on them. The trees grow, the platform moves up. Another platform is being installed below - this will be the ceiling and floor of the future house. The frame and wall cladding are fastened between them, and a roof is installed on the ceiling. Of course, such construction will last several years and when the house is ready, it will move every year along with the growing trees, higher and higher.

It is possible to build such houses, but I don’t think they will be strong, especially since they are made of wood and are at a height. If I were you, I would be afraid to do this, it requires special care.

If the calculation of the tree house frame is done correctly, then nothing will happen to it. In addition, the house can be fixed at a low height and, in addition to the tree trunk, additional supports made of timber can be installed in the corners.

A tree house is a very interesting thing. But there are a number of “BUTs” in this question. Firstly, I personally am primarily concerned about the fate of such trees. Many people tend to view the world around them solely in the context of their own convenience (a very primitive view), and they don’t seem to care what happens to the plant. This design should not kill the tree.

And secondly, of course, you need to think through all the safety issues, otherwise you can easily at least get hurt if this structure suddenly fails.
