How to grow roses
I really like roses and always have. From time to time I am overcome with the desire to grow them in my garden, but we have incredible dampness there all summer, which causes the roses to rot in the first year. I wonder if it’s possible to come up with something so that roses will still grow here?
I also love roses, but I haven’t planted them yet. New to this business. As I remember, a relative also repeatedly tried to grow roses in her garden, but it turned out that dampness, drafts, and dry air are contraindicated for roses. So these factors are very important when growing. Don't change it because of roses. You can try planting a rose at home.
It is unlikely that you will be able to grow roses in soil with high humidity. We were once given ten seedlings. We planted half in an open area, and the other half under the house, where there is constant humidity. So all the roses planted near the house have withered, and the rest are growing happily.
In wet soil conditions, it is better to look at varieties of climbing roses; there are many of them now. Climbing roses are bred on the basis of their rose hips; they are more adapted to survival.
It is best to make drainage in the area, because not only roses do not like excess soil moisture. Therefore, along the three boundaries of the site, you need to dig drainage trenches and the moisture will immediately leave.Roses should only be grown grafted onto rosehip cuttings, as they have high frost resistance.
Roses require special care so that they can please your eyes. They cannot be pruned the first year to allow the bushes to grow and take hold in the ground. If the varieties are not frost-resistant, then they need to be dug in for the winter. We must not forget about pruning the rosehip, so that the bush does not grow wild and the flowers do not become smaller.
Roses are very capricious flowers, they do not like direct sunlight, strong waterlogging of the soil, but they also do not really prefer shade and dry soil. By the way, they are very susceptible to various diseases.
Choose climbing roses for growing; they are one of the most unpretentious. And in general, I personally practically do not care for roses and they grow and bloom well for me. and they definitely need to be covered for the winter, otherwise they may freeze.
The most important:
1. Choose very strong varieties of roses (frost resistance and resistance to various diseases).
2. Plant correctly (make a hole, the necessary soil and add horse manure).
3. During the season, treat against aphids several times (always keep a supply of Iskra tablets). It is not difficult, but even pleasant to walk and spray this solution (just not against the wind, better in calm weather). In spring and autumn, treat with a copper-containing preparation (just pour it over the branches) and feed several times during the season.
4. Be sure to cover it with non-woven material for the winter and remove it in mid-April (depending on the weather earlier or later).
5. I always prune for the winter (leave from 20 to 40 cm), and in the spring I only do sanitary pruning. All the bushes bloom even more magnificently every year!
Believe me, I am a rather lazy person, but I have more than 100 rose bushes growing. They give so much pleasure! Extraordinary beauty!
Oh, if you have so many roses growing at the same time, I can imagine what a fragrance is around when the time comes for them to bloom!
You need to plant your roses in a raised area with good drainage. This is not difficult to do: dig a hole, fill it with expanded clay, for example, and arrange a rose bed from high-quality soil on top.
How many people, so many opinions... some say this, others say that, and how to decide)
You need to find a place in the garden where the soil dries out at least a little and there is enough light. Roses do not like excessive humidity, so of course they rot. The solution is either to choose another place, or to organize a bed with bulk drainage and soil.
On the contrary, our soil is dry, roses grow well, but I mainly use them as rose hips. Another option is to make a hill and plant a rose, but if the soil itself is damp, then it’s unlikely that anything will come of it, since the ground will sag anyway.
To remove excess moisture from the soil of the site, you can build a pond, or make drainage by digging drainage trenches along the boundaries of the site. Excess moisture will go away and the roots of the roses will not rot.
