We had an aquarium for four years - 50 liters. At first, everything was fine, neons, platies, catfish stuck. Then, the daughter was given a barb, he drove away all the fish, the neon fish all died, then the platie. There was only one catfish left, which fell ill with some kind of disease (it began to become covered with whitish spots). In the vet. the store told us that catfish do not live long, and therefore it is better to wait until he goes to fish heaven, and then clean the aquarium. The catfish has been gone for half a year now, we washed and cleaned the aquarium. Now if we decide to get fish again, we will buy a large aquarium - 200 liters - there is no hassle...

Yes, the larger the aquarium in volume, the more normally the natural balance is established there. Naturally, if the fish in the aquarium are not like people in the urban metropolis. A friend of mine has a 250 liter aquarium. She never changes the water in it - she just adds it. There are goldfish and snails that clean the walls of the aquarium. And that's it - no hassle!

Not everyone will decide to have a 250-liter aquarium in their apartment. My sister has a small aquarium, so periodically she completely drains the water from it, washes the aquarium itself, and rinses the pebbles lying in it at the bottom. This alone will make you not want to mess with fish.

That's right, and I'm talking about the same thing - a small aquarium will need to be completely washed regularly - taken to the bath, washed, rinsed, boiled stones and all other decorative stuffing. But in a large aquarium there are no such problems; the evaporating water is simply replenished.

You need to choose the right aquarium, install a compressor with a filter, and make lighting. To maintain the water temperature within certain limits, you need water of a certain hardness. Choose fish food so that it is balanced. In general, there is a lot of hassle.

You definitely won’t have any problems with ordinary roars. We have a 60 liter aquarium - scalars and catfish live - there is no particular hassle with maintaining cleanliness. And my friends have some exotic fish that need special care, then (as for me) it’s already annoying: constantly monitor the water temperature, special food, etc.

It seems to me that you need to start with a small number of fish and a small container in order to learn all the intricacies of care, food, behavior of the fish, and then you can expand.
