A small device for planting garlic, onions, etc.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, garlic is planted before winter as a rule in early October before Intercession. At this time, the air temperature ranges from +5 to +10 degrees, the ground temperature at a depth of 10 cm = 5 degrees.

For planting, I made a small device: in a board 1.2 m long and 15 cm wide, I drilled holes with a diameter of 20 mm at a distance of 100 mm from each other. Through these holes, using a stick corresponding to the diameter of the holes with a limiter from the bottom of the board 8-10 cm, holes are made in the ground. Works better if the ground is slightly damp. The holes in the ground are even and at the same distance from each other both in the row and between the rows. I’ve been using it for many years without bending over the garden bed.

An interesting device, but I think the holes in the board could be made thicker. For onions, you can do them after 8 cm, and for garlic, after 6 cm. Then you can plant more vegetables in the garden bed and they will not interfere with each other as they grow.

Of course, it is convenient to plant onions or garlic in ready-made holes, and if the area of the plot is large, then you don’t have to compact the planting of vegetables, so they will grow even better. Instead of holes on the rail, you can fasten round bars. I pressed the rail straight into the ground and all the holes were ready.

The device you have is what you need. but what’s more interesting is what if you plant it in the spring, but the ground has not yet fully frozen. what to do then ? I just found an article. I want to try planting garlic for the first time in early spring. but it seems to me that everything will freeze; there are still frosts during such periods. although it probably depends to a large extent on the variety. Are there those that are adapted to frost or heat or high humidity?
