Breeding and keeping rabbits in outdoor conditions
People often ask how convenient it is to keep rabbits in outdoor cages, and whether they are afraid of frost and wind. I’ll say: here on Sakhalin in the mornings the frosts were down to -50, and the rabbits tolerated it well.
Don't they get sick in the spring?
On good food and with proper care, rabbits do not get sick at all. As an exception, there is a massive outbreak of an epidemic, when all farms die out in a matter of days, but nothing can be done about it.
Rabbits are not only afraid of epidemics; they need to be vaccinated against them on time, but poor nutrition may well lead to the death of the animal. Therefore, the key to success in breeding rabbits is the right feed, both green and mixed feed.
By the way, yes. I don’t recommend saving on feed; young animals grow well on good feed and pay for their feeding very quickly. Rabbit meat is very expensive these days, and there is great demand for it.
