Liana

My grandmother has an interesting flower growing in her apartment, which for some reason we call Afkikan liana. Here's a flower. It has been growing for a very long time, about 20 years to be exact, but only last summer it began to bloom. Although, as friends who have similar plants said, they bloom almost all year round. Is it true? And who knows the real name of this flower and how to properly care for it?

This is something unknown, this is the first time I have seen such a plant. Since it has been growing for 20 years, and you still don’t know how to care for it, then this flower is unpretentious and requires no more care than other plants, so relax.

I'm just really wondering what prompted it to start blooming after so many years of normal growth? Its flowers are actually interesting: at first glance they seem like they are made of wax.

It's amazing that this flower bloomed. I've seen it so many times, but I've never noticed it bloom. I didn’t even know he could do it!

I have seen such plants many times. We grew up in school. But I wasn’t interested in the name. If I find out, I'll post)

What color are the flowers of this miracle?

Its flowers are soft pink in the shape of inflated diamonds, collected in clusters of 12-20 pieces. It blooms for quite a long time once it starts. Some flowers fly away, and others immediately grow in their place. And so on until late autumn.

Of course, I could be wrong, but most likely your flower has a beautiful name Codonanta.

But I’ve seen a lot of vines like this, but they never bloomed; perhaps it reached a certain age and bloomed.

Definitely not because of age, because... I brought it from my grandmother, and it began to bloom in the apartment this spring.... Therefore, for me this is a real mystery)))

This is a variegated hoya. It cannot be kept on the sunny side of the room. It is better to tolerate an eastern window or, as a last resort, a northern one. After flowering, dry inflorescences cannot be picked off, because in their place, new flowers will appear in a year.

Lyudmila, thank you for the tip. While it’s the weekend, I’ll just read something about this no longer mysterious plant.

No matter how many times this plant grew in my apartment, and then at work, it has never bloomed for me. Am I doing something wrong, or does it require special soil?

The flower is actually called hoya. It used to grow here and bloom almost constantly, although it stood on the north window. It grows to large sizes, we even cut it off several times, otherwise it would fill the entire window.

We had a liana and when it grew, we had to take it to a flower shop, since there was not enough space. And they will buy it for the office. They have a lot of space! Although at the formation stage the flower can be kept at home. This is two/three years.

Hoya or wax ivy. This is growing on me too. Does not require special care, moderate watering, diffuse lighting, fertilizing once a year. But in general, everything is the same as with other indoor flowers. But it doesn’t bloom for me.

My sister has such a “liana” growing. It blooms profusely, the flowers are pretty, as if made of wax. And although they say that this hoya is unpretentious, but it doesn’t grow on me, it took a shoot, but it disappeared.
