They grow cherries, but it requires angelic patience. It depends on what region you live in. Sweet cherries do not tolerate cold, even if the variety is frost-resistant. It is advisable that the site be on the south side. Cherries love fertile soil. It is necessary to immediately plant 3 varieties of cherries at once for cross-pollination. The most popular Bryansk pink, Fatezh, Iput.
Can I ask an indiscreet question? Where are these “our terms”? Do you think that there are psychics on the site and they should be able to guess where you are based on your avatar or nickname? I know for sure that it is almost impossible to grow cherries in the middle and central zone.
I live in Siberia. I meant our Russian region in general. Cherries grow well in the south and bear fruit. But I know people grow up in the Siberian and Central regions. So I asked without specifying the region. Does anyone have such experience?
I live in the Khabarovsk Territory, here we have learned to grow peaches and grapes no worse than those in the south, but even super-gardeners can’t do anything with cherries. And the local “cherry” is sour, although the jam made from it is great!
So that the cherries are sweet. In summer it should be warm and have a lot of sunny days, otherwise the cherries will be tasteless, sour, or even slightly bitter.
And I really like to eat yellow cherries. Only, unlike the red one, it is even more whimsical. Last year it froze completely and did not bear fruit, but this year it rained during flowering and the bees did not fly out of their nests. As a result, the flowers were not pollinated and, consequently, berry set did not occur.
It seems to me that it is possible to grow in Siberia those cherries that were specially bred for this region. Everything else will not take root and will not bear fruit.
You can only try a zoned variety in your region. And buy it not just anywhere, but at a specialized farm. Only then can you be sure that the variety is zoned.
If you live in Siberia, then it seems to me that it is easier to buy cherries in the supermarket. Because even if it bears fruit for you, it won’t be too abundant. And growing a tree just for a few berries is not practical in my opinion.
Of course, homemade cherries are homemade. But yours will still be small and not sweet, since I understand you do not live in the southern regions of the country.
can I ask a question here? so as not to put it in a separate topic.
I’ve been growing cherries for three years now, but they’re constantly getting sick, even though I’m cultivating them. Maybe it's too late to spray? when is it necessary?
In Siberia, cherries cannot be grown, only cherries and those of special varieties.
Is quite real!
I really like cherries - “Valery Chkalov” is an early, large-fruited variety of dark red cherries. It bears fruit from 5 years after planting, it is very tasty, juicy and easy to care for. I also want to plant a seedling near my house so that I can have such deliciousness not only at the dacha.
Of course it’s realistic, I’ve always had cherries growing in my dacha, a couple of years ago they planted another tree, I hope it will be just as sweet. The main thing at the very beginning is to make sure that the tree is well strengthened.
You need to remove the cherries in time, as worms may appear. In addition, cherries are a tall tree and it is quite difficult to completely harvest the entire crop. There is simply not enough height for the stairs or scaffolding. I noticed that white cherries disappear very quickly. If you haven’t collected fruits within a week, then most of them will already be gone.
I always bought seedlings at the market, a couple of times instead of pears and cherries I bought some poplars! Because in the spring there are no leaves and it is not clear what kind of tree it is. I want to order through the website, because, I think, there is more guarantee, this is not a seller on the market today, but not tomorrow! The assortment is large - more than 2000 items. I want to try Columnar Cherry (Queen Merry Columnar Cherry)! Has anyone tried it?! There is almost no crown, which means saving land on the plot; instead of 1 tree, you can plant a couple!
A fruit tree with a small crown will have a small harvest of berries. It’s best to buy cherries at a nursery, where all the trees are zoned and they won’t sell you any other seedlings.
And my cherries bloom well, both yellow and red. Ripens well. I can’t say that I pay much attention to her.Of course, you have to water it if it’s dry and fertilize it periodically, forming a crown.
We also have two cherry trees, red, very tall and it is impossible to reach the top branches and the birds are very happy about this, and the white one is small, but the cherry spoils very quickly, and its taste is worse than the red one.
we poisoned the leaves from the caterpillar and it just dried up. Why ?
Perhaps the solution was prepared in a higher concentration than required and, from such spraying, the cherry leaves burned. Of course, the caterpillars also could not withstand such powerful chemistry.
In our Moscow region, many tried to grow cherries, but even zoned frost-resistant varieties gave a poor, tasteless harvest. Cherries are typical for central Russia and to the north. Grow it.
Of course, cherries love the sun. In our region it ripens very well, but we are 1000 km south of Moscow. True, if you pick the fruits at the wrong time, then there will be a worm in every cherry.
