apricot

Good evening. I plan to buy an apricot seedling this spring. Please tell me in what month it is better to plant it and what rules to follow? What fertilizers should I buy right away?

Hello! It all depends on your climate zone.
In the South, planting work is often carried out in the fall
In the North, plants can only be planted in spring
In the middle zone it is ideal for carrying out both autumn and spring planting work. True, experience shows that autumn plants take root better
Prepare the landing pit. Dig a hole approximately 60x60x70 cm, while setting aside the fertile topsoil separately. Drive a peg into the bottom and install drainage if necessary. Next, mix the fertile soil (set aside) with peat or compost and pour it back into the pit. All this work must be carried out before planting an apricot seedling. Preferably at least 1-2 weeks in advance, but the longer the pit sits, the better.
To plant young animals, dig a hole in the center of the filled pit. The sizes depend on the dimensions of the root system of the young growth. Carefully insert the seedling and dig it in. Make sure that the root collar remains at least 2-3 cm above the soil level. Tie the plant and water it

Apricots do not grow in the middle zone; they freeze there. For example, from our city 200 - 300 km to the north and that’s it, there are no apricots there. Therefore, before planting a seedling, you need to make sure whether it is zoned or not.

And there is also such an interesting feature of apricot. In one gardening partnership he creates such gardens that you will admire them. And in the next one, ten kilometers away, there are stunted twigs that die without bearing fruit. I have an excellent garden near my house, but a friend’s seedlings at ten bus stops die within a year or two from the moment of planting.

Apricot can be planted in autumn and spring, but it is better in spring. This fruit tree has rather low frost resistance, and if you plant an apricot in the fall, the tree may immediately freeze without taking root.

I advise you to buy seedlings of Far Eastern apricots. Large, sweet, winter-hardy and self-fertile. I’m from Khabarovsk, we have frosts of -45 in the winter, with a piercing wind, and the trees survive such winters well. On the Otzovik website I have a review about the Akademik variety, with photographs of the fruits, written several years ago. So, this variety is the most delicious!

Apricot doesn’t take root for me either. And I chose a quiet and sunny place and prepared a hole on purpose, but nothing. There is only one last hope left to try the variety that my neighbor grows. I will plant in the spring. In general, I want to say that this is individual for everyone and you need to try it.

Strange, usually a seedling from a nursery takes root well. Maybe its roots have dried out? They had to be wrapped in a damp cloth and planted as quickly as possible after purchase.
