Eggplant

I have never tried to grow eggplants in our conditions. Do they generally grow in our area and what conditions do they need? I read that many people grow them in greenhouses, but I haven’t heard anything about growing them in open ground.

What is your lane? I live in Kuban, our eggplants grow wonderfully, only recently the Colorado potato beetle has become very fond of them. He staged some kind of invasion. In general, I don’t consider this vegetable to be capricious.

I grow eggplants every year in open ground. The most important thing is to water them and spray them against beetles and aphids. And the rest is not difficult. Then just harvest. Personally, we use drip irrigation. Very comfortably.

If the climate is harsh, then this vegetable can freeze at night. Therefore, if there are no zoned seeds, then you need to grow eggplants in greenhouses. Open the greenhouse during the day and close it at night.

Eggplants are a southern crop, so in the central part of the country they cannot be grown in open ground. They can be grown under film cover, in greenhouses, creating just the southern conditions. In the Moscow region, eggplants grow well in open ground.

Kira Yurienva, where do you live? We even manage to grow them in Siberia. They grow well in a greenhouse, care is the same as for peppers and tomatoes. We plant early ripening varieties.

Eggplants can be grown in any zone. Our friends in the Urals grow eggplants very successfully and get good yields.

But last year I couldn’t grow anything from eggplant seeds; I live in the central zone. They sprouted beautifully and grew normally at first, until I planted them in open ground. Then their growth slowed down, and later they all withered.

Much depends on the seeds. We took the Epic variety, a Dutch variety. All the seeds sprouted, and the eggplants grew large and tasty (I live in the Urals). By the way, we bought it from the online store "Seeds of the Urals", where we also bought Dordogne carrots and Pablo beets, everything sprouted, grew and all this beauty was also successfully eaten by the large family.

We are coping well with growing this crop near Kiev. We do not give them any special problems or additional care. Now it’s always very warm here in the summer, maybe that’s why they grow so well.)

In order to give you practical advice, you need to decide in which zone you live. Personally, almost everything grows in the south. You just need to take proper care.

We successfully grow eggplants in Kuzbass, but not in open ground (after all, Siberia), but in greenhouses. Almost every year we get a fairly good harvest.

near Novosibirsk, eggplants grow well, both in open and closed ground. Already sowed. The main thing is to take proper care.

Eggplants can be grown in any climate zone, except for the far north, of course. You just need to first plant them in boxes at home. We do this somewhere around the end of February, and at the end of May we plant them in open ground.

The Colorado potato beetle loves eggplants and needs to be collected several times a day.

How I love it. game with eggplant) Does anyone have an interesting recipe?)

Eggplants are very unpretentious, so they are not so difficult to grow. Like everything in the garden, they need good care. And you need to periodically spray against the Colorado potato beetle.

In greenhouses, eggplants grow well, but in open ground in the Moscow region they grow either small or lopsided, and on many they simply do not form an ovary, but perhaps it also depends on the soil.

We managed to grow eggplants in the Moscow region of quite decent size and shape. Everything was done in the same way as growing tomatoes and peppers: seeds, seedlings, planting under film, care and fertilizer.

I love eggplants, but I never plant them, although in our region they grow well, because Colorado beetles love this vegetable crop, and I don’t want to spray the eggplants with herbicides.

In general, eggplants are unpretentious, they require a lot of sun, like tomatoes, and are often attacked by Colorado potato beetles - probably one of the main reasons why you may fail in growing “little ones.” We usually plant seedlings in the ground that we grow ourselves - we plant eggplant seeds in warmed ground in March, and keep them on the windowsill, if there is not enough light, we plant them when the weather is confidently warm, by the way, we haven’t planted them yet this year - it’s cold, we’re waiting when the average daily temperature is at least 15 degrees for three days.

Eggplants are very fond of watering, if you do not have the opportunity to provide this to the plant, then it is better not to plant it, but in general they are quite unpretentious, they grow well and quickly. I don’t grow in greenhouses, everything is in the open air at the dacha.

In terms of water requirements, eggplants cannot compare with cabbage. Therefore, you can water them two to three times a week. Another thing is protecting vegetables from the Colorado potato beetle; here you can’t do without chemicals.
