Geranium bare stem
Girls, tell me what to do! I planted geranium in May, within a month it bloomed, and over the summer it grew a lot, but! Now there’s this “beauty”: the leaves are falling from below, the stem is bare and I can see from the drying axils that new leaves will also fall. I have already read various articles but have not come to a single conclusion. As a result, I’m going to transplant it into a larger pot, change the window from east to west and cut off the top of the plant (remove the growing point). I admit that the reason for the falling of the leaves and the exposure of the stem is associated with the beginning of the heating season (the flower is on the window sill, not far from the radiator), since there were no problems with watering - they did not dry out and did not flood it. Please advise your solution to the problem! I'm attaching a photo
Spray more often, and still trim the top, then it will begin to fluff. My grandmother did this; her geraniums bloomed all the time. And they stood on different windows; there was no special lighting.
Cut, and radically in half. A cool, light windowsill for geraniums in winter is just right. Water only when the earthen ball dries out. Geranium (more correctly pelargonium) is a drought-resistant plant with pubescent leaves; it cannot be sprayed!!! In February, start fertilizing flowering plants.
and I heard that you can’t spray it...My mother also taught me: if you don’t know what kind of plant it is and whether you need to spray it or not, look at the leaves. if they are rough, not smooth and the surface is rather dry, they cannot be sprayed
I read on several forums that by spring some people cut off bare pelargonium to the size of a stump with 2-3 buds, BUT in the spring. I am an impatient person, and now it’s winter, so I chose, on your advice, cutting it in half. result after 3 days - 4 lower dry buds woke up, sprouts are already visible from them, maybe I needed to cut more, but I don’t touch it anymore) thanks for the advice!
Eh, another geranium is reaching up. You can’t even imagine how sorry it is to cut it! I'm afraid that because of this pity my plant will disappear. What is she missing? The sun, watering, care, and it turns into a palm tree.
Have you fertilized it? In such cases, I always prune it, but the fact is that I cut the soot into the same pot, next to the flower. And if possible, move it to a sunnier place.
My windows face south, but the geranium does not want to bush. I cut it, fed it, pinched it - to no avail. A bare stem and a luxurious peduncle on the top. Maybe it's just not my flower?
In February-March, cut off the top and re-root. After planting, pinch the top, this will stimulate the bush to branch.
I renew geraniums annually, in winter I root the cuttings and as soon as they reach the required height I pinch the crown, then the side shoots begin to grow - the flower becomes thick and fluffy..
Cut off the top in the spring, it helps me
Everything you plan to do is right! I do the same thing every spring.
We cut the geranium very much, leave about 1/3 and then begin to form a “bushiness”. Don't be afraid to prune, it will grow from the stem buds. The main thing is to water.
Of course, I agree with everyone - you need to trim and shape the bush at your own discretion. If this is an ampelous geranium, then form the plant accordingly depending on how it hangs in your place. But I wouldn’t recommend spraying.
