How to grow chrysanthemum
How to grow chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum is my favorite autumn flower. I love the variety of shapes and colors and especially their incomparable bitter-spicy smell. The problem is that large chrysanthemums in Siberia do not always have time to bloom and tolerate winter cold very poorly. Charming Korean chrysanthemums came to the rescue. They give us the opportunity to admire the wonderful variety of flowers and enjoy their aroma.
Korean chrysanthemums are hybrids of Indian chrysanthemums and belong to the Aster family. Most importantly, they winter quietly in the open ground. They are unpretentious to grow, but prefer light soil and a sunny place. In hot weather, chrysanthemums need watering. To reduce evaporation, it is advisable to mulch the soil with mowed grass or compost. It is necessary to carry out timely feeding once every ten days. At the beginning of summer, to grow beautiful green leaves, use nitrogen organic fertilizers (mullein, chicken droppings), in July - complex mineral fertilizers, and during the set of buds - phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. The bushes grow quickly, so after two to three years they need to be replanted. They tolerate transplanting well with a clod of soil; they can be transplanted into a greenhouse in the fall and they will bloom until severe frosts. To enhance the decorative effect and give a beautiful shape, bushes can be formed by pinching shoots. Chrysanthemums are propagated by seeds, layering, cuttings and dividing the bush. The best flowers are obtained from herbaceous root shoots. The cuttings can be placed in water, or they can be immediately planted in the ground. When cutting cuttings, I use Kornevin for quick rooting. Diseases of chrysanthemums - powdery mildew, gray rot, rust, pests - spider mites, weevils, aphids. To combat diseases and pests, it is necessary to use existing drugs. (such as fitoverm, foundationazol and others). Chrysanthemums bloom from mid-August until frost. The color of the flowers is bright, colorful from white to dark burgundy. Flowers stand well when cut, up to 20 days or more. It is better to cut off unopened buds and immediately dip the cut in hot water. It’s good to add an aspirin tablet and a little sugar to the water; it is advisable to change the water often, using settled or filtered water and trim the stems. Place this beauty in your garden and it will definitely delight you with wonderful and long-lasting flowering.
Now I am breeding low-growing chrysanthemums.Very docile plant. I liked the fact that in the spring you throw the root on the floor, the number of parts it divides into is how many you can plant. I tried to cut them into pieces myself, but then not all of them grew.
What a fun way to divide the root of a plant into several parts! But, probably, it is correct - where it breaks, there is a new root.
Chrysanthemums are easily propagated by cuttings, not only in spring, but also during the first half of summer. Leave 2-3 internodes, remove the lower leaves, make a hole in the prepared soil with a stick, insert a cutting, squeeze it, water it well and cover with a jar. Water regularly, as soon as new leaves appear, remove the jar - rooting is successful.
Chrysanthemums need sufficient nutrients for good growth and beautiful flowering, so chrysanthemums grow very well in rich soils.
If the soil in your garden is infertile and dense, then before planting the cuttings it is advisable to add rotted manure, compost, and peat.
