Walnut

An ordinary walnut grows large, and the crown is very sparse. I'm afraid that he will grow long and thin. The crown is rare. I thought about pruning it to make it more branchy, but I don’t know if this will affect the growth of the tree. There aren't many branches.

In the kindergarten where my children went, there is a huge walnut growing. It is very tall and very spreading, not at all thin. But it grew this way because it was planted in a separate area and nothing prevented it from branching. And no one really takes care of him.

There is no need to make such a large distance between the trees; 6 m is enough. I have never trimmed a walnut, but the crown of the tree is still not dense. The nuts grow quite a lot and they are large.

You can trim it a little, that is, “pinch” it, as it were, this usually helps and the tree becomes fluffier.

I'm just afraid of the situation we had with the plum. It was thin, tall and had few branches. They pinched it from above and it didn’t grow, or rather it grew by 1 meter and that’s it. So it’s small and there’s not much fruit. The nut seems to be a stronger plant and it grows on its own, nothing interferes with it, I don’t understand why it was pulled up.

And what’s wrong with the fact that the tree is not too tall - it’s more convenient to collect fruits than to climb into the sky.

You do not understand. The tree itself is still quite young. First, he needs to gain height, as they say, and then become ragged. Have you seen the walnut itself? It is never low at all.

Basically, all walnuts from tree branches fall down on their own. You can collect them, dry them and eat them. True, fallen leaves make it difficult to find nuts. It needs to be carefully collected with a rake.

The fruits of a walnut fall to the ground; for example, we don’t pick them from a tree. What difference does it make whether he is tall or not?

I wouldn't cut it. Otherwise, you will end up with a low tree with poorly formed side branches. Give it growth and feed it. The trunk will be powerful.

Don't try to damage the tree. Walnut is not a tree that needs to be trimmed and trimmed. We also had such a stunted plant with a sparse crown. Now such a handsome man has grown, this year there are four nuts on one leg!!!

We planted a walnut garden using Ideal nuts. There are very conflicting reviews for this variety, so we decided to check whether this variety is really so ideal. We shot a video of how we planted it. You can watch it if interested https://youtu.be/XYxlCglP2yk

Walnuts always grow big. At least I have never seen small nuts before. Its pruning is the same as for most trees in the garden. Leave the main branches of the crown, and cut off the thin ones that will grow from the trunk. You also need to trim those branches that will grow inside the crown.

I saw in one of the Caucasian republics how a walnut was given thickness with the help of ropes that pulled the branches in different directions and I must admit, this method works, because the tree was similar in density to the Lebanese cedar.

If you stretch the branches to the sides with ropes, then they will no longer exist. I have never trimmed my nut and its branches grow just as sparsely, the crown is not dense. The branches are quite long and sometimes they break.
