Alpine currant
Alpine currants are perfect for decoration and for enjoying delicious berries. The plant is an ornamental bush and can grow up to 2.5 m in height. When grown, the bush is not picky about the soil, so it can grow even in rocky areas, withstands weather surprises, is winter-hardy, and is not afraid of shade.
Alpine currant seedlings are easy to transplant, but they need fertilizing. For propagation, green cuttings or seeds are taken.
The bushes can be shaped by pruning, which they tolerate quite easily. When planted in groups, very beautiful decorative hedges are obtained. Experienced gardeners create topiary figures of small and medium sizes.
Alpine currant varieties:
- Ribes alpinum is distinguished by medium-sized flowers, it has small leaves that fit tightly to the stems, which allows you to cut balls or complex shapes;
- Ribes alpinum L with small three-lobed leaves surprises in autumn with a color palette of pink, pale yellow, and ocher shades. There are low-growing small-leaved Pumila, dwarf Aurea with golden leaves, and Laciniata with dissected leaf structure.
