Savoy cabbage

We are used to growing various types of cabbage in our garden. Cauliflower, white cabbage, Brussels sprouts and broccoli are familiar to everyone, but Savoy cabbage is rarely found in gardens. However, in terms of protein content and the amount of vitamin C, this cabbage surpasses all other cabbage types.

If you look at the photo of Savoy cabbage, the external resemblance to white cabbage is obvious. But the difference is visible in the leaves, which have a bubbly and corrugated shape. The culture withstands frosts well down to 8 C, moreover, its taste only improves at low temperatures.

Another difference between this plant and white cabbage is that growing Savoy cabbage does not require such high soil fertility, although it cannot be done without regular fertilizing, weeding, loosening and watering. But even if all conditions are met, cut Savoy cabbage cannot be stored for long. It is best to use it immediately for preparing pies, soups, salads and hot dishes.
