Pelargonium

Geranium, kalachik, pelargonium - all these names are associated with the same type of geranium, whose representatives captivate with the lush greenery of the bushes and amazing, bright flowering, and with the right attitude towards the flower it can last throughout almost the entire year.

Imported from South Africa, the plant initially served as decoration for the homes of aristocrats, then quickly gained national recognition.

Caring for pelargonium is so simple that even novice gardeners can master it.

Growing pelargonium on the windowsill and in the garden

The geranium genus is represented by a fairly large number varieties, about 50 of them have become very widespread on all continents.

Garden pelargonium is a plant that is very often used for:

  • landscape garden design
  • gardening of personal plots
  • landscaping squares and streets

Flowering bushes planted in the garden will of course require attention; they need:

  • in irrigation
  • loosening the soil
  • feeding

To plant rolls, you should choose well-lit areas - the plant is southern and needs sunlight. This point should also be taken into account when choosing a place for a flower pot in the room.

We recommend that you familiarize yourself with information about the features of growing royal and zonal geraniums, which most often become the choice of lovers of flowering indoor plants.

For example, it will be useful to know that flowers:

  • need frequent watering with a small amount of water
  • don't like leaf spraying
  • periodically drop leaves, this is especially noticeable during the period of acclimatization, when returning to the house after the summer holidays spent outdoors
  • in summer and winter they need warmth; exposure to low temperatures can cause the death of the plant

Pelargonium propagation

This process cannot be called complicated. Cuttings can be planted directly in the ground, or initially germinate in a jar of water.

It is a little more difficult to grow pelargonium from seeds - the grown seedlings will need to be transplanted into personal small pots, be sure to provide them with high-quality drainage, water stagnation should not be allowed.

Planting a cutting will allow you to get a bush similar to the mother one, but in order to acquire new varieties of pelargonium, it would be more rational to buy seeds in a specialized store.

We are confident that high-quality, competent care for pelargoniums will allow you grow wonderful plants and admire them for many years. Note that the lifespan of a bush can reach 20 years!
