Croton

Croton's homeland is the Malaysian jungle and eastern India. The size of the plant in nature is quite impressive, the height can reach 3 m. But in a room, the growth of the flower does not exceed 1 m.

Like most representatives of euphorbias, croton does not require special conditions for growth and development; even novice gardeners can grow croton.

The peduncle of the plant is quite dense and is formed in the leaf axils. The panicles of its inflorescences have white or yellowish buds with long anthers.

Despite their small size, the flowers are clearly visible against the background of variegated leaves, combining different colors in their color: from bright green to deep dark, red, with white or bright yellow edges and veins.

  • Mrs. Eyeston - has the appearance of a tree, large leaves are decorated with golden, burgundy and pink stains.

There are several ways to get a new plant:

  • it is easy to grow it from seeds;
  • The simplest methods are cuttings and air layering.

Croton transplant

For young plants, annual replanting is required., then it will be required once every 3-4 years. Replant in the spring, with the utmost care. Damaged roots cause severe weakening of the plant; a long period of recovery will be required.

Croton care rules are very simple:

  • sufficient lighting, western and southern windows are suitable;
  • temperature in summer is within + 27 C, in winter - about + 18 C;
  • ideal air humidity is 80%, it is recommended to place the flower pot in a container with moistened gravel;
  • the plant can be washed in the shower and sprayed with a spray bottle;
  • Watering frequently and abundantly, with warm, settled water.

Trimming the croton and pinching the tip of the stem will help make the plant attractive and form a beautiful crown.

After this procedure, the growth will be denser, and lateral shoots will form more actively.

Diseases

Usually this is root and stem rot, leaf spot; fungicides are very successfully used to combat diseases.
