Raise chickens in one season
Hi all! Please tell me, is it possible to raise poultry for meat at the dacha in one summer season? I understand that it will be impossible to wait three months for eggs, but I would really like to eat homemade meat in the winter. And how many more chickens can you have for the first time?
If you take good broilers and take proper care of them, then after a month and a half they can be cut for meat. But I’m not going to describe here how to care for it; it’s easier to buy special literature for this.
Good day!
Drone, what literature do you recommend?
Of course, you can raise chickens in one season. And caring for them in the summer consists mainly of normal food. We raised both ducks and geese this way, but it’s all expensive; it’s easier to buy meat in a store.
I agree that raising a dozen chickens is too expensive to start with. If you are going to raise them for meat, then it is better to take a hundred, or even two, at once, especially since in the beginning there will still be a waste of ten percent. And if you don’t know how to choose chickens, you can lose half of it in the first week.
It also seems to me that raising poultry for one season a year in order to have a dozen birds is just self-indulgence.they keep the bird at home, not at the dacha, they take care of it constantly, investing in feed, buying chicks, care, etc.
You shouldn't say that. Compare the cost of purchased “chemical” meat and almost 5 kilograms of the purest chicken from your own production. A broiler grows quickly, if you buy high-quality chickens and good feed, the cost of meat will be three times lower than store-bought. And I’m generally silent about quality. I live in my own house and feed rabbits and broiler chickens for meat. And since the beginning of summer, people have been lining up for them to buy something fresh!
You take broilers and raise them. The most important thing is that the chickens go through a period of adaptation; it is during this period that some of them may die.
This is not a profitable business. Firstly, some chickens will still die, this happens from various factors. Secondly, the cost of the chickens themselves is quite high, add the cost of feed for the season. Well, you will have to be at the dacha all the time, you need to look after the bird.
The best option is broilers, I can’t disagree with this, but don’t buy dietary supplements to accelerate growth - the taste of the meat will be completely different.
Hello. I raised 50 broilers last year in 45 days. I took Kiev broiler chickens, 14 days old, and immediately put them in a small room, otherwise they will run around and lose weight. Fed with a natural trigger. In my opinion, the most optimal food has a shelf life of no more than 4 months. There is an age range. Of course, it will cost money. I had to, but at 60 days I slaughtered my first chicken; the net weight without giblets was 4 kg 600 g; not a single chicken died; keep in mind that they ate grass and breathed clean air; draw your own conclusions; no antibiotics or daily injections of stimulants; they sat in a cramped room, otherwise they could be repelled when jumping When I was a chicken, I dipped my insides in the morning and evening in pure moonshine from curd meat, I ate meat all winter, and I’m from the city and have never handled chickens, and this season I raised 15 turkeys, not a single one died, I took cross big 6
My grandmother also always managed to raise broiler chickens in one season. She fed only the brought chickens with finely chopped boiled chicken eggs, and later on grass, a mash of potatoes, cereals and other things. No chemical additives.
Take 20 pcs. It will be just fine. Of course, broilers are finicky, especially small ones. They cannot be grown without starter feed, since all the vitamins and minerals are already mixed in there. It definitely needs to be given. You need to feed the starter for a month, and then buy the regular one. And they also love warmth very much. I don’t understand why many people say it’s not profitable. We live in a village, we constantly get chickens in the spring, and by autumn they grow up to 5 kg.
You can, you just need to add crushed pine cones to the food.
Here in Germany everyone does this! Then there will be very good growing!!
What is it for?
Dear visitor to this amazing information portal, Bernd Jaeger! I completely agree with you about the pine cones! Are fir cones suitable for the same purposes?
buy broilers (in 3 months they grow 3-4 kilograms). for starters, I think 15 pieces is enough
Yes it is possible. Depending on what you need it for, laying hens grow up and begin laying eggs within a season; broilers can be cut into meat within a couple of months.
Yes, there are breeds of chickens that begin laying eggs at 4 months of age. I don’t know why, but many who have not kept chickens themselves believe that they need to be raised for a whole year, just like broilers for meat.
Of course, our own organic meat is great. However, in the nearest supermarket chickens cost 100 rubles per kilo. It will cost you a lot to grow. And what’s the point in sitting all summer raising tens, even a hundred chickens?
Have you personally raised broilers? No! Why then write about the high cost and unprofitability? A broiler is raised for 1.5 months maximum, but you are writing about the whole summer! And the carcass will weigh 3.5 kilos of pure meat. Do you like chicken stuffed with hormones and chemicals from the supermarket? Cheers to your health!
Of course it is possible, but for this you need to make all the necessary conditions.Starting from the purchase of broilers and the necessary feed, ending with the installation of a ventilation system. Necessary for normal temperature in the chicken coop.
To a large extent, it all depends on how much free time you have to take care of chickens. I have 10 pieces and that’s enough for us for the winter. If you have a large family, you can have more. Pay attention to nutrition and care, then the result will pleasantly please you.
Are these 10 pieces enough for meat? Or do you keep hens for laying eggs? In general, it’s the same with either ten or three; this year I’ll take fifty. I want to try to grow Adler silver ones.
We always buy broilers for meat, as they grow larger. however, their care is more thorough, since the bird is delicate. We are a family of four, so 50 pieces is enough for the winter.
They said it a little differently. Broilers are not delicate birds. They simply require high-calorie feed and special premixes. With a rapidly growing mass, ordinary feed or bunches of grass are not suitable for food.
