Raising turkeys
I would like to know from those who already keep turkeys. This summer I got turkeys, they lived in a large cage under a canopy. But what about them in winter? Will they withstand winter frosts or is it worth building a warm shelter for them?
Still, it’s worth building some sort of shelter for your birds to spend the night. Attach something similar to the cage. During frosts, their legs may catch. Like any bird, turkeys love warmth and freedom.
Relatives in the Vinnytsia region keep turkeys; there are good frosts in winter in February. It’s okay, the bird in the barn with the cows doesn’t freeze. The main thing is to organize dry and warm bedding.
It is not worth leaving the entire livestock. Make a culling and put the rejected bird under the knife for stewing. It will be cheaper. Insulate the shed for the winter and keep the bird there. Although she is not afraid of frost, if her scallop is frozen, it is very bad. Cull it too.
We don't keep turkeys in winter. At New Year's, the neighbors take everything apart, and by spring we buy it again. The bird is very capricious to good conditions. In cool weather, we hang large light bulbs in the shed where they sit, which keep them warm.
