Who's eating my potatoes?

Hello.

Last weekend I was digging potatoes and many of the tubers were eaten by the pest that I photographed in the attached picture.

Tell me, please, what kind of pest is this?

Elementary, these are the larvae of the cockchafer. So they feast on your potatoes. We also have a lot of them, when we dig we just crush them, but this is not a solution. Unfortunately, they are not getting smaller.

These are the larvae of the cockchafer. It is not easy to fight them, but it is necessary, otherwise there will be no harvest. Before planting, we dig up the garden well and sprinkle egg shells on the ground. May beetles don't like her. We also fertilize the soil with nitrogen fertilizers, which prevent the appearance of larvae.

In the fall, after harvesting, you need to water the soil with a solution of ammonia, 1-2 tablespoons per bucket of water. This will protect the harvest for next year. Karbofos is also effective, but it is also more toxic.

What a disgusting thing. I don't have this kind of crap. But in our country, the cockchafer itself is a rarity. The potato pest is the wireworm, and recently the Colorado potato beetle has appeared. It’s also so difficult to fight them!
