What to do if tomatoes crack?

Cracks often appear on tomato fruits, which greatly impairs the marketability and keeping quality of the crop. Large and multi-chambered plum-shaped fruits are most susceptible to cracks. But no matter how it was, cracks can be avoided compliance with correct agricultural practices.

1. It is important to ensure the required ratio of batteries. Recommended feeding schedule during flowering and fruit appearance: Gumi-Omi Nitrogen (60 g per 10 l of water), Gumi-Omi Potassium (30 g per 10 l of water), then alternate Gumi-Omi Tomato (70 g per 10 l of water) and Rich Vegetables (25 ml per 10 liters of water) once every 10 days.

2. Watering should be abundant, but rare (once every 5-7 days, 3 liters per plant), always at the root, in hot weather only in the evening.

3. Regular loosening to a depth of 4-5 cm will better retain soil moisture and help deepen the root system of tomatoes.

4. Ventilation must be provided for greenhouse plants to avoid severe temperature changes.

It is possible that cracks in the fruits appear due to excessive watering, but you should still water the tomatoes 2 times a week. You can increase the number of days between waterings only if it rains.

In a rainy year, tomatoes always crack. We also have a good greenhouse, it’s warm around the clock, and we didn’t overdo it with watering, it’s just that the summer hasn’t gone well at all. I almost never saw ripe whole tomatoes on my bushes.Only those that were removed with greenery were uncracked.

If the greenhouse is watered moderately, twice a week, then the tomatoes will not crack, regardless of whether it is raining outside or sunny. It’s okay that tomatoes don’t ripen in cloudy weather. They can get to sleep in a few days while they lie in the veranda or room.

You won't do anything. This is not up to you, as the tomatoes crack due to the low night temperature. That is, if the nights become cool, the tomatoes will crack. This always happens to me at the end of the season with the last harvest. If you water the tomatoes yourself, then this also happens due to excess moisture, but if there was a drought and then it rained, then you are powerless here too. Just process the cracked tomatoes first and that's it.

At the end of the season, our tomatoes never crack, but simply slowly turn red. According to the recommendations of gardeners, we water them 2 times a week in order for the root system of tomatoes to develop better. Therefore, even if it waits, the tomatoes still won’t crack. The reason is abundant watering.

This year all our large-fruited tomatoes cracked. By the way, in the spring I planted seeds from Chinese tomatoes bought in a store, with very dense pulp, which are stored almost until spring, and are quite large in size. So, not a single one of these fruits cracked!

and this year my tomatoes rotted right on the branches, from the tip, they told me that I had problems with the soil, now they brought manure, I will fertilize

That year our tomatoes did not crack at all, but this year half of the crop cracked. They were grown in open ground, apparently due to the abundance of rain this happened. I had to remove some of them unripe to prevent cracks.

Of course, cracks in tomatoes are a sign of watering them abundantly. There are gardeners who water their beds every day, but according to the rules, tomatoes need to be watered a couple of times a week.

We generally don’t water our tomatoes much, but we also had cracks on some of our tomatoes last year and this year, this is of course very, very unpleasant, but we didn’t use chemicals at all.

Tomatoes need to be watered twice a week, and not like cucumbers - every day and they will not crack. We also do not use any chemicals to process tomatoes, but spray them with the biological agent Fitosporin.
