Decorative physalis - decoration of your garden!

Decorative physalis

I started growing this beautiful plant several years ago. I saw it in winter, in a bouquet of a girl passing by. These were bright orange lantern flowers that simply amazed me. Arriving home, I began to scour the Internet in search of this wonderful plant. It turned out that this is an ornamental physalis. I wanted such beauty for my own garden.

After a short search, I bought seeds and began to wait for spring. Somewhere in early April, I planted the seeds in separate pots, lightly pressing them down with earth and watering them with warm water. It sprouted quite quickly, a week and a half. Germination was about 90% of sowing. I heard that you can feed them, but I didn’t do it. At the end of May, the seedlings were ready to be transplanted into the ground. The plant is not picky, so the soil is not particularly important, the main thing is that the soil is not acidic. I chose a place for transplantation in the sun, although it is possible in light shade. It should not be planted in a completely dark place, as the lanterns will not be bright. Plant the plants at a distance from each other as the decorative physalis grows strongly.

Important! If you want earlier flowering, then sow the seeds and plant ready-made seedlings (the flowers will be in June, early July). If you plant the seeds immediately in the soil, expect color at the end of summer. It blooms with small white flowers.

Care for the first time after planting consists of regular watering (twice a day), weed control and loosening the soil. After that, the decorative physalis began to grow; it does not need to be watered so often. This wonderful plant can also be taken from cuttings. This can be done at the beginning of summer in June. It is also able to reproduce by rhizomes, which grow quickly. This is, in fact, another way to plant a flower. You need to divide and plant the rhizomes either in the fall or in the spring.

That's all! Nothing complicated either in sowing or caring. Plant and enjoy the orange miracle!
