Growing walnuts on a personal plot

Walnut is a priceless plant. A long-lasting, beautiful, high-yielding tree with excellent quality wood, healing leaves and amazing fruits. The walnut itself is 75 percent fat and high in calories. Just 25-30 nuts can satisfy a person’s daily need for calories and vitamins.
Growing walnuts on a personal plot is becoming more and more popular every year. The walnut plant is unpretentious and can develop and bear fruit well throughout almost the entire territory of Russia. However, for cultivation on a personal plot, it is better to select zoned varieties.
However, a tree can also be grown from a nut purchased in a store. To do this, several dozen walnuts are planted in the ground in the fall to a depth of about 5 cm. Plants planted in this way have a low germination rate of about 5-10%. The first shoots should appear in early May.
Exactly one year later, the plants are transplanted to a permanent place, leaving a tap root length of 35-40 cm, the rest is cut off. This is necessary for the root to become more branched and developed. As the seedlings grow, it is necessary to form a crown. The optimal crown shape is considered to be in the form of a bowl.
Walnut seedlings need constant watering and periodic feeding. In the first year, zoned plants must be covered with spruce branches for the winter.Plants of unknown or southern origin will have to be covered every year, in addition, for the winter you need to mulch the soil around the tree with manure at a distance of 5-10 cm from the stem.
An adult walnut is comparable in size to an oak tree and requires a lot of space and lighting; this must be taken into account when planting the plant in a permanent location.
If you follow these recommendations, growing walnuts will not be difficult, and in just a few years the tree will certainly delight you with its first harvest of nuts.
Comments
No matter how much we tried to grow a tree from a nut, nothing worked. But those nuts that fall into the ground by accident (dropped by a crow) germinate and take root wonderfully.
