Common horse chestnut - we grow it ourselves

common horse chestnut

Do you like chestnuts? Well, I mean, not as a dish, which I consider exotic, actually, but as a tree? Like? I really like it! Large horse chestnut - this is the correct name of this common tree. It is very beautiful - tall, spreading. When it blooms, it dresses up with large inflorescences in the form of candles, and in the fall it scatters shiny round fruits, dressed in a prickly shell - “hedgehogs”, which children and, for some reason, older women love to collect.

Although, why for some reason? Chestnut - very useful plant. Many people prepare all kinds of medicines from the fruits of this miracle tree, because almost all its parts - bark, leaves, flowers and fruits - have healing properties. They contain a huge amount of useful substances. First of all, chestnut is known for its ability to help treat vascular diseases - varicose veins, hemorrhoids, thrombophlebitis and leg ulcers. It is also used for inflammatory processes and as an internal remedy and for baths.

Grow a chestnut It seems quite complicated, because the fruit, which contains the seed of the future plant, is quite strong and, it seems, only nature itself is capable of growing this tree. But we were somehow lucky. In the spring, while cleaning the local area, the children found several sprouted chestnuts in last year's foliage. The sprouts were still small, but we still decided to plant them. Moreover, they planted them not on the street, but at home - in ordinary flower pots.Surprisingly, the sprouts quickly began to grow and by autumn they reached 30-40 centimeters in height. For the winter, we put them in the pantry, where it is cooler, covering them with newspapers. To be honest, I thought that our chestnut trees would not survive such an unusual winter, at least they would dry out. But March came and the pots of chestnuts again took their places on the windowsills. And the tiny trees began to grow again!

So another year passed. With the onset of the second spring, at the end of April, we took our pets, who were just over half a meter tall, outside. There they have been growing for five years now, turning into young, strong trees. This spring we plan to plant them around the perimeter of the house so that they will delight all passersby.

I did the same, planted annual seedlings 40 cm tall along the house in the fall. Now five chestnut trees, I think, have safely overwintered their first winter in their lives and I hope they will continue to delight the residents of our house and of course me...

I remember as a child I also grew a chestnut in a pot, my parents doubted for a long time whether it would grow or not. But the chestnut and I were very persistent and overcame everything)))) Now a beautiful tree grows behind my house and every spring it delights all the neighbors with its flowers.
