If you ever see a beautiful blooming flower floating and growing in a pond, you will undoubtedly want one for yourself. After all lotus flowers really worthy of attention.
Lotus is a herbaceous amphibious perennial that has a thick rhizome and stores nutrients with it. The position of the lotus flower itself changes with the sun. There are 2 types of lotus growing in the world - Nut lotus and yellow lotus.
The lotus has surface leaves that are quite large - they can reach a diameter of 50-70 cm. They have a long petiole and float and can rise high above the water. These emergent leaves are covered with a waxy coating, so they are not wetted at all by water.
Lotus flowers are very fragrant and solitary. They are bisexual and quite large, have quite a lot of petals and are able to rise above the water on very long stalks.
Any type of lotus contains rubber and vitamin C, and the sprouts and petiole contain a toxic substance called non-lumbin. The rhizomes and seeds of this plant can be eaten and used as feed for poultry and animals.
If you propagate a lotus by rhizomes, then with proper care your lotuses will bloom the next year. But for this to happen, it is necessary to plant eight-year-old plants. Four-year-old lotuses will take root without problems, but they will bloom much later. Propagation by rhizomes is very difficult, therefore, without knowing this matter, it is better not to undertake it. In this case, you should contact an experienced lotus specialist.
