Medlar

Medlar is a very beautiful plant; it can be grown in open ground only in the southern regions, but in an apartment it can grow as an ornamental plant and even bear fruit.

The green beauty belongs to the Rosaceae family.

Its flowering is a spectacle of mesmerizing beauty; it can be observed for almost a month; the flowers exude a sharp, intoxicating aroma of bitter almonds.

The fruits ripen in June; they taste like strawberries, apricots, apples, contain many useful substances.

Growing loquat

Doesn't matter, where will loquat be grown?, in open ground or in a room, you can get a seedling very simply - by purchasing mature fruits of the plant. It is enough to remove the seeds from the fruit, wash them and immediately sow them in a pot with soil.

Seed germination is excellent, almost 100%. The seeds are planted to a depth of 3-4 cm. It is not advisable to pick the seedlings; the grown seedlings are immediately transplanted into larger pots with a lump of earth, taking into account the fragility of the roots.

After about a month, the first true leaves will appear on the seedling; you will need to decide what you want to get: a bush or a tree. If you are forming a bush, it is recommended to pinch the top of the plant.

The formation of the crown of the tree begins only after six months.

In order to produce more fruits, it is recommended to place the plant in a well-lit place.

Growing medlar at home in a pot

When growing medlar at home, you do not need to worry about pollination - cross-pollination for the ovary is not at all necessary.

Another advantage is that if space is limited, you can limit yourself to growing just one tree; in any case, it will bear fruit.

The best water for irrigation is melted snow, or regular settled water; its temperature should be slightly higher than room temperature.

It is recommended to spray the leaves with warm water twice a week. Once a month you can put the plant in the shower. In winter, watering is reduced to a minimum.

Since medlar blooms early, in April, daylight hours may not be enough for full fruit formation. Therefore, you need to be prepared to organize high-quality lighting.

Fruit harvesting

They start it after the fruits acquire a brown color. During this period, they are already quite sweet, the astringency disappears from them.

Some more useful tips for those who decide to grow this wonderful tree:

  • do not forget that in spring and summer the plant needs feeding;
  • during the flowering period, you will need to loosen the soil more often - the roots need more oxygen;
  • the plant loves systematic ventilation of the room; in warm weather it is recommended to take it out onto the balcony;
  • The main point in care is to provide the plant with moisture; if the leaves on the medlar dry out, the flowers and ovaries fall off, most likely the soil in the pot is too dry.

We hope that growing medlar in a room or on a plot will bring you real pleasure.
