Common hop

In the latitudes of our country you can often find a grassy vine, the length of which can reach 10 meters. Of course, we are talking about a plant like common hop, growing in deciduous forests. It was grown as a crop in the Middle Ages, but it is no less famous in modern gardens.

Hops are used not only for their luxurious appearance, but also for their beneficial properties. The plant finishes flowering at the end of August, after which the formation of yellow vesicles rich in lupulin can be noticed. It is lupulin that determines that common hops are used as a medicinal plant. The grains must be collected immediately after the scales have noticeably lightened and the delicate aroma of the cones has appeared.

Interestingly, the plant is also used for food purposes. Thus, in the Caucasus, you can buy common hops in the form of a dish prepared from its young shoots. In addition, boiled young hop shoots can be used instead of asparagus and beans.
