Kampsis
Campsis is an attractive plant in all respects, its vine-like trunk has graceful curves, the leaves delight the eye with bright green, large, orange-red flowers are like bells, the first buds appear in early summer, active flowering continues until the first frost.
All Kampsis cultivated today are divided into 2 types:
- rooted, North American
- grandiflora, Chinese
Growing Kampsis in the garden: choosing a place
When looking for a place to plant, you should remember that this deciduous vine is quite powerful, its length can reach 15 m. One plant will be enough to decorate a gazebo, the porch of a house, or a fence.
A free-growing liana tends to spiral around supports, while the intricately curved trunks of adult vines look extremely picturesque.
For normal development and active flowering, the vine will need bright lighting and warmth; a planting site should be chosen that is open to sunlight.
The soil can be any, but it will be easier to get large flowers in large quantities on fertile, loose soil that has a neutral or slightly acidic reaction.
When planting several plants, you should considerthat they will soon grow and require space for their development.
Campsis grandiflora: care features
In the process of growing Kampsis you will need:
- periodic pruning
- systematic watering during dry periods
- fertilizer
- ensuring safe wintering by creating temporary shelters from lutrasil and plastic film, insulating the tree trunk circle with spruce branches and fallen leaves
Flowering activity largely depends on each of the components of care, especially on the correct pruning: the formation of buds occurs on new, young branches.
Timely removal of old branches is an excellent incentive for the development of strong shoots. Pruning is done in the fall, at the end of the flowering period, or in early spring, before the buds begin to swell.
Experienced gardeners practice pruning in the summer, which allows the plant to be used to create hedges and decorative figures of various shapes.
Knowing how to form a campsis with a tree, you can get quite original flowering plants that will decorate a garden of any design.
Reproduction of Kampsis by cuttings, seeds, layering
Growing from seeds is not often practiced, although the method is simple, but it will take as long as 7 years to wait for flowering to begin.
Get a new plant during the season allows the formation of layering; for active root growth you only need to frequently water the buried shoots of the old bush.
For propagation it is also easy to use root shoots and the cutting method.
If desired, you can grow Kampsis in a pot. at home. With proper care, it is not difficult to turn it into a houseplant.
